Stonington man accused of beginning hearth at his house

A Stonington man has been charged with arson after authorities say he began a fireplace at his house.
The state hearth marshal’s workplace says crews responded to a fireplace at a house at 31 Faculty St. in Stonington round 11 a.m. Wednesday.
After extinguishing the hearth, the Stonington Fireplace Division requested the help of the state hearth marshal’s workplace.
Following an investigation, authorities say they decided the hearth had been deliberately set and arrested the house owner, 33-year-old George St. Amand.
St. Amand was charged with arson and brought to the Hancock County Jail. He’s anticipated to make his preliminary look on Friday.
