Mother and father of Maine teen who died on faculty mountain climbing journey sue MSAD 61

The mother and father of a Casco teen who died whereas on an in a single day faculty mountain climbing journey two years in the past have filed a federal lawsuit in opposition to the district.
Amy Tait of Casco and Christopher Strecker of Chester, Vermont, filed the lawsuit in opposition to MSAD 61 in U.S. District Court docket in Portland on Friday, in accordance with the Portland Press Herald.
Their son, 17-year-old Michael Strecker, died on Sept. 12, 2021, whereas mountain climbing South Baldface Mountain in North Chatham, New Hampshire, the Press Herald reported.
Strecker was amongst 60 college students, about half the senior class at Lake Area Excessive College, who had been collaborating in an annual hike for seniors within the White Mountain Nationwide Forest. They had been descending on Slippery Brook Path with workers chaperones when Strecker succumbed to exertional heatstroke.
Of their lawsuit, Tait and Strecker allege the scholars and workers weren’t correctly skilled, outfitted or ready for the hike.
