Mainers report ‘frostquakes’ throughout deep freeze

A sudden plunge into below-freezing temperatures has prompted some uncommon tremors within the central Maine highlands.

In keeping with the Nationwide Climate Service workplace in Caribou, some Piscataquis County residents have reported feeling “frostquakes” through the excessive chilly on Friday night.

The tremors are the results of “cryoseisms”, in response to the NWS. These are triggered when sudden cracks type in frozen water or soil.
