Maine lady charged after 23 animals discovered residing in squalor

An East Millinocket lady has been charged with animal cruelty after police say quite a few canines have been discovered residing in extraordinarily poor circumstances, and a few have been malnourished.
Police say they responded to a house on Major Road in East Millinocket on Wednesday following a disorderly criticism and located a number of canines attacking one another in a small fenced-in space on the property.
One canine was killed within the struggle, in response to police.
Six canines have been turned over to the police by the homeowners and brought to an area animal shelter. Police then searched the house on Thursday to retrieve different animals from the residence.
In complete, 23 animals have been taken by police, together with 21 canines, a cat and a pig.
East Millinocket police charged 34-year-old Megan Mathis with animal cruelty.
