Apparently Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, will assist lead the Home of Representatives within the joint Home-Senate consideration of the nation’s navy finances. Greene is just not a member of the Home Armed Companies Committee and has by no means served in uniform. Reportedly, Greene beforehand stated on Lou Dobbs’ radio present that navy service was like “throwing your life away.” What’s thrown away is trash; so apparently these of us who’re serving or have served are trash. Oh effectively, free speech.
However did any Republican in Washington react to Greene’s remark? Did Maine’s personal Susan Collins? In that case, I didn’t hear it. I do know, the Home and Senate are separate, unbiased chambers, and should depart one another alone. However this isn’t about congressional privileges. That is in regards to the women and men who willingly put their lives in hurt’s solution to shield our lives. Your life, my life. Every single day and each evening, together with weekends and holidays.
Grownup Republicans will reassure us that Greene and her ilk are like youngsters enjoying within the yard: “Ignore them. They’ll’t do any hurt.” Nicely, really they’ll. In an unsure world, a picture of America being ruled by youngsters is itself hurt. Serve a day in uniform, wherever at sea or overseas, and you’ll sense it. In Aretha Franklin’s breathtaking spelling, it’s known as R-E-S-P-E-C-T! With out that, America’s not America.
