Howland-area colleges abruptly shut as a result of ‘security concern’

College Administrative District 31 abruptly closed its colleges Thursday, citing a security concern however offering few particulars.

SAD 31 serves the Maine cities of Burlington, Edinburg, Enfield, Howland, Lowell, Maxfield and Passadumkeag.

“Resulting from a security concern, and out of an abundance of warning, there shall be no college in MSAD 31 tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 31,” Superintendent Darcie Fournier wrote Wednesday night.

Enfield Station College, Hichborn Center College and Penobscot Valley Excessive College shared the message on their Fb pages.

The district will replace the college group when it’s decided to be secure to return to highschool, Fournier mentioned.
